The Retroid Pocket 5 can run DroidDeck, but only as an experimental device. Its Snapdragon 865 has an Adreno 650, and the DroidDeck README treats Adreno 6xx as experimental: DirectX 11 games may run, DirectX 12 games can still crash. Lighter and older PC games are realistic; recent big releases are not.

The same chip is in the Retroid Pocket Mini, the Snapdragon 865 version of the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and the AYN Thor Lite, so what follows applies to them too. The Flip 2's Dimensity 1100 version uses a Mali GPU and does not run DroidDeck at all.
What "experimental" means on the Pocket 5
The early history of DroidDeck on this handheld explains the label. On DroidDeck 0.3.0, a Pocket 5 owner found that Hollow Knight, Vampire Survivors
and Alba crashed to a white screen while Stardew Valley worked (GitHub issue #261). The maintainers worked out why: those were DirectX 11 games, and the
open-source Turnip driver on Adreno 6xx does not offer a GPU feature (storageBuffer8BitAccess) that the DXVK version bundled with Proton
needs. OpenGL games were unaffected.
The fix (pull request #320, merged on 6 October 2026) installs the older DXVK 2.7.1 on these GPUs, and DroidDeck 0.3.2 shipped with Adreno 6xx support. After it, the same owner reported Alba, Celeste, Hollow Knight and Signalis running well. DirectX 12 games are a different story: the README still warns they can crash on Adreno 6xx. In practice that means DirectX 9 and 11 games, OpenGL games and 2D indies are where the Pocket 5 does well.

Not every Pocket 5 owner had the same luck. In early October, one owner on ResetEra reported that every game they tried crashed on launch and that the controls did not work in Steam's interface. That report came before 0.3.2, so update first if you see the same thing.
Setting up DroidDeck on the Pocket 5
The general steps are in the DroidDeck install guide. On the Pocket 5:
- Use 0.3.2 or newer. Earlier versions cannot start DirectX 11 games on this GPU. Download the APK only from GitHub Releases.
- Use "Fix it for me". The Pocket 5 runs Android 13, so when Steam first starts, use the Fix it for me button DroidDeck offers to lift Android's child-process limit.
- Install DroidDeck on internal storage. In GitHub issue #701, a Pocket 5 owner whose DroidDeck was installed on an SD card merged into internal storage saw Steam flash a blue screen and return to DroidDeck's home screen. Keep the app on internal storage, and in the same thread a Pocket 6 owner reports crashes when free internal space drops below about 10 GB. Add the microSD card as a separate Steam library for games (supported since 0.3.2).
- Pick the right games. Start with a 2D or older DirectX 9/11 title. If a game shows a white screen, check its graphics API: DirectX 12 games are the most likely to fail.

DroidDeck or something else on the Pocket 5?
DroidDeck's draw is Valve's own Steam client and Proton, but its developers build for Adreno 730 and newer. On a Pocket 5, alternatives that were around before DroidDeck are worth comparing: see DroidDeck vs GameNative and DroidDeck vs Winlator. If running Steam games is the main reason you want a new handheld, Retroid's Pocket 6 and Pocket Nova are in DroidDeck's supported class; the compatible devices page lists more.
Retroid Pocket 5 questions
Does DroidDeck work on the Retroid Pocket 5?
Partly. Its Snapdragon 865 has an Adreno 650 GPU, which the DroidDeck README lists as experimental. Since 0.3.2, many lighter DirectX 9 and 11 games and OpenGL games run; DirectX 12 games can still crash.
Which DroidDeck version should I use on the Pocket 5?
0.3.2 or newer. Before that, DirectX 11 games crashed to a white screen on Adreno 6xx. The fix, which installs DXVK 2.7.1 for these GPUs, was merged on 6 October 2026 and 0.3.2 lists Adreno 6xx support.
Steam shows a blue screen and returns to the home screen. What now?
One Pocket 5 owner hit this with DroidDeck installed on an SD card merged into internal storage. Install DroidDeck on internal storage and keep plenty of internal space free; put games on the SD card as a separate Steam library instead.
Does this apply to the Retroid Pocket Mini or Flip 2?
Yes, to the Snapdragon 865 models. The Pocket Mini and the Snapdragon 865 version of the Flip 2 use the same chip and GPU. The Dimensity 1100 Flip 2 is unsupported.
Should I upgrade to a Pocket 6 for DroidDeck?
If DroidDeck is the main reason, yes: the Pocket 6 and Pocket Nova use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with an Adreno 740, which is in the supported class.
